October 6
Today was a "bonus" day for us with our Collette tour of Hawaii. The official tour began today, with today being a travel day for everyone. But, we opted to come yesterday so we'd have all day today to simply enjoy being here. And the islands did NOT disappoint. The one thing I will say that was "not ideal" was neither one of us (and talking to Sue & Dan this morning, only Sue did not have this issue) adjusted well to the time change. We were exhausted at the end of the day yesterday and when we went to bed, between 1am and 2am by our biological clock, it was only about 8-8:30 pm here. So when we slept - about an hour longer than either of us usually sleep, it was only about 3:30 am. Coffee was not served downstairs until 6 am. Oh my. A lot of semi-sleeping, resting, watching the early morning news and then we went downstairs to greet the day. I made a short video to say hello to all our Facebook followers and shortly afterwards were joined by Sue & Dan. We chatted for a while and then set out on a morning exploration.
We asked about the local shops and the beach and headed out one direction, circled back and ended up at the beach where you could see Diamond Head in the background. Of course it was a perfect spot for a photo op - first of just the two of us, and then a group selfie. And just in case anyone is doubting us, YES we got our feet in the Pacific Ocean :)
The main "plan" for the day was to enjoy the very cool & luxurious pool of the Prince Waikiki Resort. Now, the pool is located on the fifth floor giving you an wonderful panoramic view of Honolulu. And in addition to the main pool, there is an infinity pool which you can wade/swim up to the edge and look straight down five stories. The water was refreshing and so were the drinks we enjoyed pool side. Yes, of course I had my travel drink of choice (though it's almost always onboard a cruise ship) - a frozen mudslide!
By late afternoon we all retired to our respective rooms to get ready for the remainder of the day. Tonight we had a Sunset Cruise which departed at 5 pm, and rather than eat late when EVERYONE else is packed into the local eateries, we opted to instead have a late lunch/early supper at 3pm and then head down to the pier for our cruise. Clearly.....CLEARLY the sunset cruise was the highlight of the day and the perfect ending to an amazing day :) After our meal we set out to make the 1 1/2 mile walk, but the GPS on the phone kept re-routing us and I was convinced we were heading the wrong way. After ten minutes we'd circled back to where we started and now we were afraid we'd miss it. So finally, wisdom and maturity prevailed and we called an Uber. Was there in two minutes and we arrived ten minutes early for the cruise instead of missing yet another one! There's no way to properly describe the cruise that would do it justice. The photos below are great, but you would have had to be there. So smooth, so calm - all four of us (as well as all the other guests onboard) commented multiple times - WOW, this is amazing. Tomorrow we meet our tour guide, Anne, and we have a multiple hour tour that takes us into the late afternoon.
